36 Quality Improvement Integrated Kangaroo Mother Care (QIiKMC)-Development with Evidence-based Practice for Improving Quality (EPIQ) to Improve Learning and Implementation

Abstract Introduction/Background Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) improves outcome for small newborns, but implementation has been slow. This lag may be associated with lack of short, effective learning programs healthcare workers, and limited ability to overcome barriers KMC program development. Objectives To develop a practical focus on facilitating workers assisting the mothers other family members in care babies. integrate quality improvement assist improve practice. Design/Methods Six neonatologists, global experts, developed as simulation-based, interactive, 12-contact-hour virtual pilot testing Uganda, Tanzania, Nepal, prior Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital Uganda. Revisions QIiKMC course content integration were accompanied by development A Readiness, Survey, Knowledge Confidence Check, Parent Information, Course Evaluation, all components available at www.cnf-fnc.ca. Results Thirty-three nurses physicians increased knowledge scores from 79% 88% post-learning. 77% indicated was useful or very useful, appreciating “The link between EPIQ identification solving problems” “Usefulness involvement caring newborn hospital home”. Participants preferences face-to-face more time hands-on babies 0% 65% (by August-October 2022). Length stay decreased 5 days. Government beds 4 8. Staff reported job satisfaction along activities. Family addition involved (especially multiple births if mother ill). Families helped families learning. One father that “When my baby grows up, I will let him know it warmth which kept alive”.
